Business Signs
Sign Code
The City of Mandan requires a permit for most signs. To learn more about requirements for various types of signs, please review Municipal Code Sec. 105-1-15 - Signs.
Sign Permits
A sign permit application may be downloaded using the links below and submitted to the Building Inspection Department at City Hall, 205 Second Avenue NW, Mandan.
Portable Signs
- All companies that rent portable signs to customers within the city must be licensed with the city and carry liability insurance in a form and amount specified by the city. Each rental sign shall have the rental company's name and phone number clearly visible on the sign.
- Registration of portable signs is required along with a monthly update on the location of each sign.
- A portable sign may be placed at a business up to 240 days per year.
- Portable signs include parked trailers or vehicles visible from the right-of-way unless used in day-to-day operations.
- If having a portable sign out for more than 240 days is not enough for a business, the Mandan Architectural Review Commission encourages the business to switch to a permanent sign with changeable copy.
