Streets

City of Mandan Street Department is made up of 14 employees: 1 street superintendent, 10 full-time equipment operators, 2 part-time summer helpers, and 2 mechanics. 

Responsibilities include:

Street Maintenance. The city of Mandan is responsible for approximately 125 miles of paved streets, 14 miles of alleys and 10 miles of City sidewalks. Yearly maintenance includes:

  • pothole repair, sweeping, striping streets, pedestrian crosswalks, and on-street parking areas, painting of curbs
  • asphalt replacement in the spring and summer,
  • crack sealing in the fall,
  • sanding and snow removal in the winter

Right of Way Maintenance.  Includes mowing, weed control, snow removal and general cleanup of publicly owned properties. This includes areas such as:

  • legal drains and retention ponds in the residential areas,
  • public right-of-way adjacent to bridges.
  • public right-of-way along major thoroughfares and medians throughout the city, and
  • city-owned sidewalks.

Street Sign Maintenance. Includes installation of new and upkeep of existing street designation signs (signs that show a street's name) within the city limits. Missing, damaged or incorrect signs should be reported to this office for replacement. The department also maintains other street signs, such as stop, yield and no parking signs.
