Storm Sewer System
The city of Mandan has over 36 miles of storm sewer and 6 lift stations. The maintenance of the storm sewer system is the responsibility of the utility department and residents.
Illicit discharge is the dumping of liquids or refuse into storm drain inlets. Eliminating these types of discharges is very important in the protection of our natural waterways in the city of Mandan.
Illicit discharges include:
- septic tank effluent,
- oil disposal,
- grass clippings/and eaves on the street,
- commercial car wash wastewater, and
- sanitary wastewater.
Keeping illicit discharges from occurring means using good housekeeping practices, including:
- recycling or properly disposing of waste,
- keeping waste receptacle lids secured on windy days, and
- cleaning up spills or litter immediately,
- keeping grass clippings and leaves off the street, and
- helping to keep your neighborhood storm drains clean of debris and litter.
