Construction to Begin on Multi-Purpose Trail Along Highway 6

Jun. 26, 2024 – Construction of a multi-purpose trail along Highway 6 from 19th Street SW to the Heart River Bridge will begin this summer. This trail is the final piece of a series of trails constructed along this corridor, which will connect a system of trails with the Mandan Municipal Golf Course. Mandan Park District received a North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) Transportation Alternative grant for $470,288. The grant is an 80/20 split with the Park District being responsible for 20% of the project costs.

The project consists of grading, culvert installation, ADA compliance, signage and an asphalt trail. Work will take place this summer and will need to meet all NDDOT inspection and documentation standards.

Phase I & II 19th Street Trail Concerns. During the June 4 City Commission meeting, City Engineer Jarek Wigness addressed concerns regarding the existing trail along 19th Street SW from Fort Lincoln Elementary School to Highway 6. The City and Park District continue working with project consultants and contractors of both phases of the existing trail to provide solutions to current issues. A fix is anticipated during construction of the new trail.

The City Engineering Department has been working closely with the Park District on this new trail project. Either entity can be contacted with questions.
