What's Happening North of I-94?

Jun. 16, 2022 - One of many projects north of Interstate 94 is dirt work for a 16th Street and Eighth Ave NE infrastructure improvement project to include constructing streets, water main, sanitary sewer and a parking lot. The infrastructure project was requested by owners of the majority area within this street improvement district. The northeast corner adjacent to the Starion Sports Complex is to be a tennis center owned by the Mandan Park District.

Eighth Ave NE currently exists as a gravel road and serves as secondary access to properties in the area. The improvements call for an urban road section with curb and gutter, storm sewer and appropriate base for a 20-year design. Total project cost for infrastructure and roadway improvements is just over $4 million to be paid by special assessment from the benefiting properties within the district.

Bids approved for tennis center. At its June 13 meeting, the Park Board approved bids for the Mandan Tennis Center. The 41,600 sq. ft. dome will include six tennis courts located at 520 16th St NE. Three of the courts will be multi-striped to allow for 10 pickleball courts. A 3,000 sq. ft. welcome center and four outdoor pickleball courts are also included in the plans. The tennis center’s parking lot will provide ample parking for the center and extra parking for the Starion Sports Complex. The facility is anticipated to be open by the end of 2022.
