Mandan Unveils "Celebrate 250" — The 2026 Independence Day Celebration of the Nation's Semi quintennial
Official Announcement: Mandan Unveils “Celebrate 250” –
The 2026 Independence Day Celebration of the Nation’s Semiquincentennial
The Mandan Progress Organization (MPO), Visit Mandan, City of Mandan and Mandan Rodeo Days, are proud to announce the official theme, applications and community events for the 2026 Mandan Independence Day Celebration. The upcoming Fourth of July celebration promises to be the most ambitious and patriotic event in Mandan’s history, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. Visitors to Mandan can look forward to a weekend filled with memorable experiences and returning traditions. The annual Art in the Park, Fourth of July 5k Road Race and Mandan Rodeo Days will both be back. The Fourth of July celebration will be highlighted by North Dakota's largest Independence Day Parade, and the Mandan Progress Organization is excited to introduce the brand-new Prairie Pyro-Musical fireworks spectacular.
The Parade: “Celebrate 250” A Living Story of America
The heart of the celebration takes place on Saturday, July 4, 2026, when Mandan’s Main Street fills with red, white and blue for the Mandan 146th Independence Day Parade presented by Eide Automotive.
The parade begins at 10:00 a.m., carrying forward a proud tradition that began in 1879 — making it the largest and longest-running Independence Day parade in North Dakota.
The 2026 parade theme, “Celebrate 250,” will showcase America’s story from 1776 to 2026 through floats, costumes and performances that reflect the country’s past, present and future. A prestigious Grand Marshal, embodying the values of patriotism, service and community, will lead the parade and will be announced in January 2026.
“This parade is where Mandan’s spirit shines brightest,” said Matt Schanandore, Executive Director of the Mandan Progress Organization. “It’s a living celebration of our community and our country, a reminder that Mandan doesn’t just watch history, we make it.”
Float registration is now open at VisitMandan.com/parade-signup and will close when spots are full or on Friday, June 12, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.
All entries must be decorated in alignment with the 250th parade’s patriotic theme, and participants are encouraged to bring their creativity to life through approved float concepts such as Spirit of 1776, 250 Years of Freedom, Home of the Brave, United We Stand and Mandan — Where the West Begins.
To heighten the excitement, the MPO has also introduced the “Mandan 250th Parade — Float Contest Series,” a new friendly competition that will honor the most creative entries. Floats can compete for titles like Stars & Stripes Overload (Most American Flags), Spirit of 1776 (Best Historical Representation), Red, White & WOW! (Best Overall Patriotic Design), Home of the Brave (Best Tribute to First Responders or Veterans), and Spirit of Mandan (Best Local Identity Float).
The Prairie Pyro-Musical: A Fireworks Show Debut
The night before the parade, Mandan will introduce a completely new fireworks experience — the Prairie Pyro-Musical.
This 25-minute immersive, artistic performance will redefine what fireworks can be, combining light, sound and emotion into a theatrical celebration on the ground and high in the sky. We are also proud to announce that the pyro-musical will be produced by Pegasus Illuminations, a pyrotechnician company based out of Mott, ND. This new Fourth of July kickoff will be unlike anything that has been seen in the Bismarck-Mandan area.
Attendees can expect a soundtrack that blends pop, country, rock, romance and pure Americana, the show will synchronize every explosion, sparkle and shimmer to the rhythm of music. Spectators will witness everything from ground fountains, fireballs, glittering aerial fireworks and up to 16” rocket shells that will bring perfect harmony to the North Dakota sky.
“The NEW Prairie Pyro-Musical brings something never before seen in central North Dakota,” Schanandore said. “It’s more than fireworks — it’s a sensory experience, a symphony of light and sound that celebrates who we are as a community and as a nation.”
Expected to be the largest fireworks display ever produced in the state, the Prairie Pyro-Musical will take place on the evening of July 3, 2026 and set the tone for an unforgettable Independence Day weekend. More details and location will be announced at a later date through VisitMandan.com/prairie-pyro
Additional 250th Celebration Highlights
While the Parade and Pyro-Musical stand at the center of the 250th festivities, Mandan’s holiday weekend will also feature an incredible lineup of beloved community traditions and family-friendly activities.
From July 2–4, the Mandan Rodeo celebrates its 147th anniversary, continuing its legacy as one of the world’s oldest continuously running rodeos. Held at the Dale Pahlke Arena at Dakota Community Bank & Trust Rodeo Grounds, the event will bring more than 500 professional cowboys and cowgirls to Mandan to compete in a full slate of rodeo events — from bronc riding and bull riding to barrel racing and steer wrestling.
On the morning of July 4, runners and walkers can kick off the day with the Mandan Rodeo Days 4th of July 5K Road Race, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Main Street. The family-friendly race winds through downtown Mandan and finishes just in time for spectators to take their parade viewing spots along the route.
Throughout the holiday weekend, Dykshoorn and Heritage Parks will again host the Art in the Park Festival, one of North Dakota’s largest outdoor art fairs. The event will feature artists, crafters, food vendors and live music — creating a lively, creative and welcoming atmosphere that embodies the spirit of Mandan.
A City of Pride and Patriotism
Mayor Jim Froelich shared his excitement for what will be one of the city’s most important celebrations.
“Mandan has built a reputation as one of the most spirited Independence Day destinations in America,” Froelich said. “As we celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary, this parade and the Prairie Pyro-Musical will stand as symbols of Mandan’s enduring pride, patriotism and community spirit. It’s our moment to honor the past, celebrate the present and inspire the future.”
