Buidling Blocks Technical Assistance Grant to Focus on Third Street Area

May 29, 2024 –The City of Mandan is participating in the Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities Technical Assistance program, focusing on approximately two miles of the Third Street corridor in southeast and southwest Mandan. The specific area to be studied extends from the intersection of Third Street and Memorial Highway to the west past Highway 6/10th Ave SW to the Heart River.

This technical assistance includes collaborating with residents and stakeholders to address issues such as affordable housing, employment opportunities, walkability, transportation, environmentally sound and healthy communities, and the promotion of local culture and other amenities.

“This area has been identified due to significant funding recently applied to the Sixth Ave corridor and slated for the levee and Memorial Highway, which may trigger redevelopment,” says City Planner Andrew Stromme. This will be the first time for this area of Mandan to be the focus of a small area study.

A two-day workshop is being planned this fall to engage with citizens and stakeholders in the area for additional recommendations in the subarea plan, culminating with the adoption of an action plan at the completion of the study.
