City Commission Appoints Ryan Heinsohn to Vacant Term
Jul. 16, 2024 –The Mandan City Commission appointed Ryan Heinsohn to fill the unexpired term of former Commissioner Brad Olson through June 2026. The vacancy occurred when Olson left office to move to Nebraska to be closer to his family.
Heinsohn was the third-highest vote getter in the June 2024 local election, with all top-three vote getters within 46 votes of each other. Commissioner Sjoberg noted he met with Heinsohn prior to the meeting to ensure he was still interested in serving.
The Commission was advised by Attorney Amy Oster on June 18 of three ways to fill the vacancy: the board could choose to call a special election; citizens could petition for a special election; or the board could appoint a person to fill the unexpired term if citizens didn’t petition. There were no petitions filed by the July 3 deadline, so the matter came before the board this evening.
