Economic Development Strategic Planning Underway

A steering committee assisting with a Mandan economic and community development strategic planning process held its first meeting in May. The steering committee will offer input and ideas about community priorities to support city staff and partner entities in development of action plans for Mandan’s work on economic development.

The committee is made up of elected officials and private sector leaders including representatives of partner entities, major industries and business districts as well as youth and focus areas such as economic diversification plus workforce development and attraction.

Executives from the Praxis Strategy Group together with Burian and Associates are leading the planning process including facilitation of steering committee discussions, gathering community input, and providing qualitative and quantitative information for review, prioritization and action.

Organizers expect the steering committee will meet three to four times over the next few months. Focus group discussions will take place in late June.

This strategic planning process is being made possible with a Partners in Planning grant awarded to the City by the N.D. Department of Commerce with the local match coming from the operating budget for the Business Development and Communications Department. Mandan collaborates with many partner entities and organizations in its economic and community development initiatives.

The project goal is to assure continual community improvement over the next 5-10 years by focusing time and investment by both public and private sectors to capitalize on Mandan’s strengths and opportunities.
