Mane Expressions Wins 2022-2023 Golden Shovel Award

March 22, 2023 – The City of Mandan recognized Mane Expressions as the winner of the 2022-2023 Golden Shovel award at the March 21 City Commission meeting. Mane Expressions was presented $500 and a traveling golden shovel to display for the remainder of the year. Vicky’s Sports Bar came in second and received $250.

The public nominated 12 Mandan businesses doing a good job keeping walkways free of snow and ice this winter. Voting took place during the month of February. Five votes separated the winner and runner-up.

The golden shovel and winter decorating contests were a way for the City of Mandan to pay forward to the business community a prize from its Main Street Initiative award for overall excellence. The North Dakota Department of Commerce provided $1,500 for a small project to increase community vibrancy during the winter season. The goal of these contests was to improve the city’s sparkle, accessibility and pedestrian friendliness during the winter season.
