Fireworks
NEW YEAR'S EVE FIREWORKS
The use of fireworks, excluding sky lanterns or bottle rockets, is permitted in Mandan on Dec. 31 from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
INDEPENDENCE DAY FIREWORKS
The possession, use, discharge and explosion of fireworks is only permitted in the city of Mandan from noon to 11:59 p.m. on July 3 and 4.
- No sky lanterns, bottle rockets. The possession, manufacture, storage, sale and use of sky lanterns and bottle rockets is prohibited within city limits.
- Fireworks off limits in parks. Fireworks are prohibited at all city parks, with the exception of Mandan Rodeo Days’ annual display at Dacotah Centennial Park.
DISPOSAL OF FIREWORKS
Please pick up and dispose of all remnants afterwards. Fireworks should be disposed of in the regular garbage as they are not recyclable. To properly dispose of used fireworks, wait until they are completely extinguished and no longer warm. Before placing unused fireworks in your garbage tote, remove the fuse and soak in water overnight.
VIOLATIONS
The fee for violations is $150.
BANS
Dry conditions in past years have led to fireworks bans. Conditions are evaluated as the July 4 holiday approaches, and any updates will be posted at cityofmandan.com/news.
FIREWORKS STANDS
A temporary use permit is required in order to sell fireworks in the 2 mile extraterritorial zone outside Mandan city limits. Standards include, but are not limited to:
- Being wholly contained within a trailer, tent, building or other structure, whether permanent or temporary
- Holding a fireworks sales permit as issued by the City of Mandan and a state retailer license
- Having a minimum 1,600 sq.ft. area dedicated for customer parking. Additional parking may be required
- Having a minimum 500 ft. setback from all flammable and hazardous material storage areas and structures

SALE OF FIREWORKS
According to North Dakota Century Code Chapters 23-15 and 23-15.1, Fireworks can be sold only between June 27 and July 5, and December 26 through January 1 each year. A purchaser must be at least 12 years old.
