Arbor Day

Mandan Public Works celebrated Arbor Day on Friday, May 1 with fifth grade students from Lakewood Elementary School. North Dakota Forest Service Outreach and Education Manager Beth Hill gave a presentation on how trees grow and Grounds Maintenance Superintendent Jason Herman read the proclamation signed by Mayor Jim Froelich declaring May 1, 2026, Arbor Day in the City of Mandan. As part of this year's celebration, two trees were planted in Dykshoorn Park, adding to the City's ongoing efforts to grow and enhance our urban forest.

Each year, the City has a celebration and plants a tree on Arbor Day with the help from a local elementary school. Arbor Day is traditionally celebrated the first Friday in May, but any day can be recognized and celebrated!

 

Mandan is proud to be a Tree City USA for 49 years! This means the City meets four core standards of sound urban forestry management: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, investing at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.
